Volkswagen Classic Car Display

VW is "Different by Design", come see our classic VW display.

Our first car is a 1974 VW Thing. If you remember the price of a first class stamp increasing from $.08 to $.10, then you'll remember the Thing. It was also known as the Trekker, Safari or simply the Type 181. In North America it was know as the Thing. This amazing vehicle boasted a 0-60mph of about 23 seconds....get out your sundial!

You also may know that Miami won the Superbowl, the Oakland As won the World Series, Johnny Rutherford won the Indianapolis 500, and West Germany won the World Cup. You were flocking to see "The Godfather Part 2" and listening to Olivia Newton John sing "I honestly love you." Did you have about $3100 to purchase a Thing?

About 25,000 Things were imported during 1973 and 1974. Ralph Nader didn't fell this vehicle was appropriate for Americans and thus importing of the Thing ended. Richard Nixon resigned and Gerald Ford became our 38th President. We're sure there is no connection of these events.

Our newest arrival a 1977 Beetle with 108 ORIGINAL miles. It was the last year for the sedan, this has factory AC and a sunroof. The Beetle was produced for 2 more years in a Convertible version only.

Remember 1977? Jimmy Carter was president, defeating Gerald Ford in 1976. Who could forget his brother Billy and his "Billy Beer". A first class stamp was $.13, the median household income was $13,572 and unemployment rate was 7.1%. Scientists identify "Legionnaires Disease".

Fleetwood Mac releases "Rumors", it remains on the charts for the next 3 1/2 years. The "King" Elvis Presley dies, having 55 gold singles, 24 gold albums, and selling to date 600 million albums. Yes, Albums you do remember those?

Star Wars, Saturday Night Fever and Close Encounters of a Third Kind are in the theater. Rocky wins the Academy Award for Best Picture. Laverne and Shirley, All in the Family, and Happy Days are the top TV shows. "Roots" the mini series seems to go on forever!

AJ Foyt wins his record 4th Indy 500, Seattle Slew wins the Derby, and the Yanks beat the Dodgers for the World Series.

CB radios are so popular, they interfere with radio and TV signals. The $7.7 billion dollar Alaskan pipeline is finally running. And if you had $3900, you could buy a new VW Beetle like this one.

Come by and see all of our Classic VWs, we'd love to reminisce about the "good old days" and show you all of the new VWs.
